Neil Gorringe's 14.75KG Snapper on 8KG line class!
Having never caught a ‘20-plus pounder’ before, Auckland angler Neil Gorringe trumped this number in spades with his pending 8kg line-class national and world claim snapper weighing 14.75kg.
Ironically, it was caught on Friday, November 13, a day some would say was more likely to result in bad luck than good.
He was fishing with skipper Lance Patullo aboard his launch Polperro over some deep foul north of Little Barrier Island. They were participating in the Hauraki Sport Fishing Club’s annual prize-giving weekend away at Kawau Island. The fish was weighed at The Big Fish Fishing Cub’s Pakuranga headquarters, where NZSFC President Phil Appelyard assisted with the claims.
Neil was fishing with a Abu Garcia rod and a Daiwa SL30SH reel filled with 8kg Momoi line. The terminal tackle was tied on 80lb Black Magic Tough Trace. For more on the catch, see the January edition of NZFN.
