Straylining remains one of the most effective techniques for targeting quality fish, and our new KLT and DX strayline rigs take this classic method to the next level. Whether you're a weekend warrior chasing snapper around the local reefs or a tournament angler targeting trophy kingfish, these purpose-built rigs deliver the performance and reliability you need.
RIG DESIGN
Our new KLT and DX strayline rigs feature a refined two-hook configuration built on premium 60lb Tough Trace.
Each rig includes a long-life lumo bead positioned to attract fish while maintaining the natural drift that makes straylining so effective.
The rig construction uses a proven snood knot configuration that's IGFA legal, ensuring your trophy catches can be officially recognized. The lower hook is sized larger than the upper hook, creating optimal bait presentation while increasing your chances of solid hookups.
You will need to slide a sinker on the rig to ensure your bait gets to the seafloor…the lightest possible will give best results.

HOW TO RIG
Black Magic Tackle champion Jeremy Troup introduces our viewers to the new range of Black Magic Tackle Strayline rigs and some tips and tricks in how to fish them for big moochers.
GEAR GUIDE
ROD SELECTION: Use a 7-8 foot medium action spinning/overhead rod with a sensitive tip. The extra length helps with casting and line control during the descent, while the sensitive tip telegraphs even the gentlest takes.
REEL CHOICE: Experienced anglers prefer overhead reels. If less experienced, you may find spinning reels easier to cast the lightly weighted baits out back. A quality 4000-6000 size spinning reel with smooth drag and good line capacity will do. You need to be able to give line freely as your bait descends then quickly recover slack when fish strike.
LINE SETUP: Shallow water straylining is best enjoyed using monofilament. Spool with 10-20lb mainline for maximum sensitivity and casting distance. Braid's thin diameter cuts through water better and provides superior feel for detecting subtle bites but with less stretch, can be more easily detected by weary fish. Our Hyperglide® 13x Braid is constructed from 12 Japanese PE fibres woven around a strong central core, delivering the robustness needed for tough fighting species like snapper, kingfish and tuna.
Alternatively, 6-10kg mono offers excellent abrasion resistance and stretch for shock absorption. Our IGFA lines in the 6kg-10kg line classes are considered the Rolls Royce for straylining with. Alternatively both BM Premiere Supple and Premiere Tough lines are great choices. Use the tough option over rocks or the supple over sand. If on a budget, our very popular Wasabi 1/4lb spools can do the job too.
QUICK TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
BERLEY INTEGRATION: Combine these rigs with a berley trail to attract fish and mask any unnatural boat presence. The enhanced scent trail works perfectly with the natural rig presentation. Store bought burley bombs are useful, as is chumming up freshly caught fish and dispensing in intervals through your session.
MULTIPLE ROD SETUP: Use a second rod if able with a different rig types to cover various depths and techniques simultaneously. This maximizes your chances and helps determine what's working best.
STRUCTURE POSITIONING: Position yourself up-current from structure and let your rigs drift naturally toward the fish-holding areas. Fishing with wind and tide going in the same direction is important with this form of fishing.
